Myanmar and Thailand border to make easy access for tourists

New arrangements by both Thailand and Myanmar will allow tourist entering Myanmar to travel freely except in government restricted areas.  They are four checkpoints which you can enter Myanmar from Thailand and vice versa; Tachileik-Mae Sai, Myawady-Mae Sot, Kawthoung-Ranong and Htee Khee-Punaron. Soon to be popular tourist spot are the islands of Mergui Archipelago, in southern Myanmar, a popular place for untapped white sandy beaches.

In turn Myanmar citizens with passports can enter and exit Thailand at these checkpoints, unlike in past years.

“Starting 8 a.m. Wednesday, any foreign national holding a valid passport with a valid entry visa issued by Myanmar will be allowed to enter and exit the country through the border checkpoints at Tachileik-Mae Sai, Myawady-Mae Sot, Kawthoung-Ranong and Htee Khee-Punaron, they said.

Currently, for foreign nationals entering via those checkpoints, Myanmar issues either one-day border passes or entry visas that are valid for up to a week but restricted to nearby towns.”
