Half of Laotian woman lack supervised birth
Laos has one of the highest martenal mortality rate outside of Africa at 220-370 deaths per 100, 000. Comparing to neighbor Vietnam, which has 49 deaths per 100, 000 and 1st world countries like Canada at 11 deaths per 100,000.
On a positive side Laos has improved since the 90s, where the rate was high as 1215 deaths per 100, 000 live births. Also midwives have been getting professional training and number around 800 in the country.
